The Psalter

Coverdale Translation (1535) as used in the 1662 Book of Common Prayer

The Psalter in the Book of Common Prayer uses Miles Coverdale's translation from 1535, which differs from the King James Version. This translation has been used in Anglican worship for nearly five centuries and is prized for its poetic rhythm and suitability for chanting.

Book I (Psalms 1–41)

Book II (Psalms 42–72)

Book III (Psalms 73–89)

Book IV (Psalms 90–106)

Book V (Psalms 107–150)

The five-book division follows the traditional Hebrew arrangement of the Psalter.
